With all the Isabel Marant for H&M hooha, it seems that we’ve all forgotten just how exciting Topshop’s collaborations are. Kate Moss, Christopher Kane, Mary Katrantzou and more, Topshop know what’s up when it comes to generating affordable, high fash attire. Meadham Kirchhoff’s new line for Topshop has hit the stores with all the pastels, rainbows and unicorn tears you could expect from the London based designers.
“This collection was inspired by the idea of a band or a gang which we named ‘The Cherrys’. The overall aesthetic was influenced by Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids, Kembra Pfahler and glam rock,” the designers told The Telegraph. “It is an enormous and all-encompassing collection which will offer a myriad of choice for any customer to adapt or reject as they see fit.”
Don’t mind if we do. With a collection pushing 80 pieces, there’s enough to tempt both the daring and the conservative. Part Harajuku girl meets My Little Pony and a touch of Dr Suess meets Summer of 69, the gist is fantastical, whimsical and (apart from the Monsters Inc. style platforms) a whole lotta fun. If you’re worried that wearing a sugary, baby doll confection will scream ‘Daddy issues’ then there are plenty of subtler pieces to choose from. A knitted crown of flames not your bag? Perhaps a suede jacket or eyeball embellished tee takes your fancy? It’s ludicrous to think that shopping without receiving an elbow to the face is almost novel these days but luckily most of the collection can be bought with ease and peace online and you won’t have to queue or fight for a damn thing. This heart Gummi Bear-esque romper is up there with one of the best things I’ve ever seen. Pure joy. That’s all.
